Guinea Pig Spotlight: Thistle

Thistle is a rescue. He is a large saffron Abyssinian with ruby eyes. He was in a small cage in a dark closet when we adopted him. He was very frightened and skittish when we brought him home and while he has adjusted, he is still cautious and prefers his space, especially from other boars. He will assert himself immediately with other boars, so much so that he injures them and would kill them. He now enjoys being cuddled by his humans and is very calm around sows, He really enjoys having a female companion. Thistle is not available for adoption since he is particularly adverse to change and seems to finally be feeling comfortable with his new family.

Did You Know? .... Many people think ruby- or red-eyed guinea pigs are sickly or that something is wrong with them. Ruby-eyed guinea pigs are actually quite common. Their eye color just means they don't have as much pigmentation as other cavies.
